Hopefully you may have noticed the two new bright yellow boxes in the Parish... the Parish Council has recently installed two public access defibrillators. One at Wickham Village Hall and the other at Weston Farm Barns in Weston the bright yellow cabinet stores the portable device.
What is a defibrillator you may ask.... a defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest. This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and it's an essential life saving step in the chain of survival. If you come across someone who has had a cardiac arrest, it’s vital to call 999 and start CPR. When you call 999 they will advise you on where the nearest defibrillator is and how to access it. Within the carry case are scissors, chest pads and everything you will need to use it. The defibrillator itself will talk you through how to use it, anyone can use it without any prior training. However, to give you confidence before you need it in an emergency why not watch the training video? Training Video. You shouldn’t be afraid of using a defibrillator if someone has had a cardiac arrest, it could save their life. The Parish Council do hope to organise a public training session, if this is something you would be interested in attending please let Sarah know at [email protected]
