Highways have informed us of changes to the proposed M4 Closures for the week commencing 9th October:
· Monday 9th, Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th October – Full EASTBOUND closures from junction 13 to junction 12 · Friday 13th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October – Full WESTBOUND closures from junction 12 to junction 13 The closures planned for week commencing 16 October have been cancelled as the narrow lane traffic management should be installed. Following ongoing concerns raised over the Sovereign Housing site at 1-6 Easton Hill, Easton, the Parish Council will be holding an Extra Ordinary meeting onsite at Easton on Saturday 14th October at 9am.
Residents are welcome to attend to share their views. The agenda for the meeting can be found here.
M4 Junctions 12 to 13 Hermitage (West Berkshire) – Bridge Refurbishment Works – Upcoming Closures
Preliminary works along the M4, between junctions 12 and 13, is progressing well and in October the narrow lane traffic management is scheduled to be installed. To assist with onsite activities and the installation of the traffic management, the following full overnight closures of the M4 have been programmed: · Monday 2 October for 5 nights – full EASTBOUND closures from junction 13 to junction 12 · Monday 9 October for 5 nights – full WESTBOUND closures from junction 12 to junction 13 · Monday 16 October for 5 nights – full EASTBOUND closures from junction 13 to junction 12 M4 weekend closures As with the previous scheme, during work to demolish and install the bridge deck beams, specialist working methods and equipment will be required which will include larger cranes that will sit across all lanes of the motorway. We will therefore need to fully close the M4 east and westbound carriageways between junctions 12 and 13 for entire weekend periods (9pm Friday through to 5am Monday). The first of these closures is expected to be in late-November 2017 – confirmed dates will be advertised in advance on signs along the M4, on the Highways England website and via the media. Significant delays are expected during these weekend closure periods, and it is advisable that you plan ahead of your journey to allow for extra time or avoid this route where possible. During all closures a clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 (through Newbury, Thatcham and Woolhampton). We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption during the closures; if you have any questions, or if you’d like you know about our work please contact us on 0300 123 5000 or email info@highwaysengland.co.uk. Or you can visit our website at www.highways.gov.uk/roads Yours faithfully Kathryn Blofield Communications Coordinator West Berkshire Highways have informed us that the A338 Wantage Road through Great Shefford will be closed from Monday 25th Sept while the road is resurfaced. The closure will be between Newbury Road and Station Road and will be in place between 9:30am and 3:30pm each day. The works are expected to take up to 4 days (weather dependant).
Access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained during the closure. Residents will be able to gain access to and from their property but should expect short delays while the road is made safe for them to pass. The signed diversion route must use the same class of road so will be via A338, A4, A34, A4185, A417, A338 and vice versa. All enquiries should be directed to West Berkshire Highways Maintenance Team on 01635 519080 A plan of the closure and further information can be found at www.roadworks.org Hopefully you may have noticed the two new bright yellow boxes in the Parish... the Parish Council has recently installed two public access defibrillators. One at Wickham Village Hall and the other at Weston Farm Barns in Weston the bright yellow cabinet stores the portable device.
What is a defibrillator you may ask.... a defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest. This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and it's an essential life saving step in the chain of survival. If you come across someone who has had a cardiac arrest, it’s vital to call 999 and start CPR. When you call 999 they will advise you on where the nearest defibrillator is and how to access it. Within the carry case are scissors, chest pads and everything you will need to use it. The defibrillator itself will talk you through how to use it, anyone can use it without any prior training. However, to give you confidence before you need it in an emergency why not watch the training video? Training Video. You shouldn’t be afraid of using a defibrillator if someone has had a cardiac arrest, it could save their life. The Parish Council do hope to organise a public training session, if this is something you would be interested in attending please let Sarah know at welfordparish@yahoo.com Easton Hill will be CLOSED from the 11th to 13th September to allow repairs to a leaking water main.
The alternative route for all traffic affected will be via B4000 Baydon Road, High Street and Rood Hill. All queries should be forwarded to Torid Bastien of Thames Water on Tel: 02035 777 740. The landowners have agreed to physically create the new route to the west of Easton Farmhouse – if there are no objections then the order can be confirmed by West Berkshire Council, but only after the new route has been created to West Berkshire Council’s satisfaction. The part of the diversion north of Easton Farmhouse is already available for public use. Full details can be found here:
Welford Parish Council has installed a Public Access Defibrillator on the village hall at Wickham, devices like these are saving lives in rural areas, where an ambulance may not reach the patient within the crucial time.
The defibrillator is secured in a specially designed locked cabinet. On phoning 999 the ambulance service, if it is appropriate for the patient will inform the caller where the defibrillator is and how to access it. The defibrillator comes in a carry case complete with all you need to use it, it will talk the user through how to deliver the shock if required. There is an adult and child setting on the defib and with the clear and concise instructions the idea is that anyone can use it in an emergency. If you would like to know more about the equipment and familiarise yourself with it details can be found here www.ipad-aed.com/training/ . The Parish Council hopes to run a free training session in the near future to give people the confidence in an emergency. |
